THIS PRODUCT MUST BE BACKLIT
TO ACHIEVE THE INTENDED FINAL LOOK AS DESIGNED
As with all our previous CMYK glass projects, make
sure you are clear on the major differences
in design & appearance, as compared to the original glass,
before making a purchase.
There are no original films for this glass, thus we are forced
to start the redux of the artwork layout with
a scan of an NOS glass. We rebuild from there, re-creating
everything except the "painting" part of the artwork.
That means new mirror, new spot color layer(s), new white layer,
and new lightblock layer. But the "painting"
part of the artwork is NOT redrawn... it's impossible. It
was a watercolor or oil painting, and cannot be redone.
The special glass-bonding enamels we use have
been developed to
hold their density when backlit.
In order to do this, the
algorithm for the print infers final gamma into the layout.
Thus unlit, the glass looks "dark and oversaturated" (see final
photo) and may shock newcomers.
Once backlit in the backbox, the glass glows at the intended
final colors and tones. (See backlit photos).
This is because the gamma (glow/backlight) is "built into" the
artwork density. The looks can be completely different
- but this product is NOT meant to "match" a backglass, but rather replace it.
A compromise for lost,
broken, peeling, flaking, scratched, or cracked original
