2010 REPRODUCTION PLAYFIELD
SECTION FOR PURCHASE DETAILS
Artwork by PAUL
FARIS, Original Bally factory films
Special thanks to Gene & Kim at Illinois PinBall
why did these happen? We had some CNC downtime after
the Playboy playfields were completed, and we were basically out
All we had left was a small pile of Bally-sized gameboards - not
nearly enough to do a full run of playfields. We were
waiting for our
new load of gameboard wood - namely the Flight 2000 wood, which
was our next playfield in line. We discovered we had
Centaur insert sets (from 2005), combined with extra Flight 2000
deep blue inserts on hand, to produce a small number (in the
of Centaur playfields. We also needed to replace the
archive Centaur playfields that since 2005 had been sold or
given away as
prizes, favors to show supporters or art team members.
Plus - several art team members had begged if we ever got to
whip off a
few more Centaurs, they would be interested in them.
So it began - the mission to perform a small INTERNAL re-run of
Centaurs (no public, no preorders) to satisfy these needs.
Once the archive playfields were replaced (the ones that aren't
supposed to be sold), and the applicable art team members got
the remaining playfields would be brought public and made
available to the entire hobby. So here we are !
SO WHY ARE
THERE THREE "VERSIONS" ???
Some people prefer original production style, some (including
myself) prefer the prototype print, and the white versions were
simply made because the wood was fairly ugly - so why not make a
cool version? Explanations of differences are below:
- A straight-up Centaur print, just as you'd see in any
- The "Orb Release Tunnel" text is red. Simple as that.
This is on the original Bally films, but was later
covered up for production printing, leaving Orb Release Tunnel
as plain white. We simply didn't cover the red for these
WHITE TOP VERSION
- since this was leftover gameboard stock, some of the maple
veneers were not the best in appearance.
We decided it would be cool to mask the ENTIRE SURFACE in white
silkscreen enamel, so the black artwork "floats" in infinity
right to the edges. The shooter groove and Orb release
flap area are also completely white to match. Any place
there would be
bare wood lips (around bulb holes, drop target openings, etc)
are also clean white. "Orb Release Tunnel" is red.
Everything is under clearcoat, of course. If you decide on
one of these, you'll have one of only THREE made - ever.
