BARGAIN CORNER
Blems – Rejects – Clearance
This FIRE playfield has had a long history here, and been a labour of love (pain in the ass) for over a decade. We refused to let this one die! This is a debut-run whitewood from back in 2012 or 2013 or so. At the time, this one got botched so badly on the silkscreen run (horrible misregistration) that we held onto it, never clearcoating it, and put it in storage. It emerged again years later, during the second re-run, was sanded off, and given a second chance. But that time, shearing the top off to start anew, broke through to the next layer in the gameboard wood, which was dark-grained sweet gum (at the time). So the refreshed “whitewood” looked like it had dark chocolate swirls coming through everywhere. We call this burn-thru. We silkscreened it anyway, and this time the artwork was perfect alignment. However, the woodgrain looked so ugly and dark in places… we held it back from clearcoating AGAIN, and put it away. It later emerged a few years ago, and the woodshop crew refused to let this playfield die. It was given a THIRD chance. Pushed through the drum sanding a third time. Totally refreshed top, ready for artwork again. This time it was digitally printed, with a bunch of creative priming & pre-print layers, creating a FLAWLESS (but fake!) mapletop veneer. Even down into the shooter groove! Then the master layered art package was printed on top. It ended up gorgeous, cosmetically. This time, it went through clearcoat. Then we’ve had it around since then… but still wasn’t eligible to be full priced, normal stock.
SO here it is in 2026. Ready for a potential home. The only caveat we notice are the ramp chasms are almost non-existant now. With the surface of this gameboard having been shaved flat three times, it took off about 1/16″ in total. After the clearcoat, the ramp chasms are almost flat/flush with the rest of the surface. To properly use in a game, some crafty hand routing would need to be done. Maybe? Suppose it depends on how the flaps on the ramps work themselves out onto the surface when swapped. Regardless, priced to clear.
